I have an 11-12 gallon glass rectangle fishtank, i want to convert it into a saltwater/reef aquarium. What exact equipment do i need? as in brand and name of the items, because i want to buy them online, because i know they will be pretty expensive at the fish store. THANKS!!
I have no equipment, my fish tank is 22″ long, 10″ wide, and 12″ tall…so i think thats about 12 gallons, and i want to put some fish in it, some life rock and some coral hopefully some anemone for my clown fish i want to put in. Will all that workout together?
And i have no experience at all, but my dad is very experienced, we once had a 55 gallon fish tank. So he can help out if needed.

Buy a couple of MJ-1200 powerheads.
You would need a hydrometer … I prefer the floating one since they are more accurate and less prone to failures.
You of course need salt. I use Kent.
You also need a protein skimmer. Your choices of a good one are limited since your tank is very small. Berlin Airlift is good for this size tank.
Well you have the fish tank but what other supplies do you currently have? What type/brand of filter, heater, etc.
Also do you plan to do “fish only”, “fish only with live rock”(FOWLR), or corals in your saltwater tank because equipment will differ for each setup.
Are you an experienced marine keeper? Anything under 20-25 gallons is deemed expert-only when it comes to marine tanks and 12 gallons is too small for most marine fish. There’s plenty of nano equipment being released lately however, but you will probably find it more expensive to convert fresh to salt than buy a kit like the red sea max set ups.
Edit: 12 gallons is too small for clownfish, definitely too small for anemones, especially as you’re inexperienced, you need some hefty lighting for corals – hard to find sets to fit a 12 gallon. Keeping saltwater follows completely different rules to fresh.
I’d recommend buying a ready set up larger kit like the aforementioned Red Sea Max, it will cost the same as converting your tank but be less of a headache.
