Heyy! Okay so my brother and I are starting up a reef aquarium and we just had a questions..
It’s a 46gallon tank and we’re planning to fill it with a nice big clump of live rock.. But as I’m sure you guys would know live rock can get pretty pricey (about $10/1lb >.<) and with how much live rock my brother wants lol and the tank will allow >.- \it’s going to cost somewhere over $300!!! =/ Anyways.. I thought I read something that said a person could use just normal or fake rock for a normal marine aquarium if they didn’t want to do the whole coral reef look.. and I was just wondering if, to maybe cut down on some of the cost for live rock, I could just put down some normal rock as a base and then jsut cover it with live rock and still be able to get different anemones etc. And still have a happy healthy tank ready for fish..??? thnks for the help ^^

I keep getting conflicting information about tank lighting for my 30 gallon marine aquarium (i relize my aquarium is small however its hard to justify a larger one in the size of house i have) i also have a 20 gallon sump for extra water in the system. My intentions are to have a full on reef tank capable of being the comfortable home of any coral, invertabrate, fish, rock, or %^$^& maple tree if i so desire. I currently only have a regualr florecent hood that my 2 tiny green chromis love but im aware that is not enough to allow SPS corals and some inverts to thrive. i was looking at metal halide lighting florecent and lunar lighting in a single hood but my local shop owner told me it was a waste and that with my tank a compact florecent would be adaquit. can somone with experience please help me out?
